Stand Up Against Violence Against Women

2010

Dear Men,

I would like to ask you to play a leading part in making Ireland a safe and less violent country for women.  A place where your grandmother, mother, daughter, sister, cousin or friend  can live free from violence and abuse.

On November 23rd in Dublin, we will launch “The Other Half” an Alliance of three national organisations that work on the issue of violence against women and have come together to rally the support of men in the campaign to stop violence against women in Ireland. As part of this launch we will be rolling out a national White Ribbon campaign at which invited leaders, like you, from different walks of Irish life, will be invited to wear a white ribbon and pledge publicly never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.

We know that most men are not violent towards women and want to be part of the solution to this problem in Ireland. This is a great opportunity for you to publicly state your support for this campaign.  All men are a vital part of the solution and we want you to know that you have an important role in taking action to end the violence.

Our new website www.theotherhalf.ie will go live on the day of the launch.  We will also have a full programme of events to raise awareness of the white ribbon campaign across the country.

We hope you can say yes and that you can join with us to help harness the energy, support and understanding of Irish men everywhere to make our country a safer place for women.

It will take place at 12 midday in the Mansion House Dublin.

If you are interested in standing up against violence against women, attending the event and taking the pledge we would love to hear from you.

Yours sincerely,

The Men’s Development Network
